Pentaptych IV – Textile Wall Hanging

Pentaptych IV – Textile Wall Hanging

£1,700.00

This exquisite, handmade textile wall hanging was commissioned by Oriel Myrddin Gallery for the 2024 Craft Festival Wales Craft Trail in Cardigan, West Wales. Rosie Lake’s work draws inspiration from Merlyn Oliver Evans’ artwork Pentaptych No.4.

At first glance, the piece evokes the same strong graphic composition seen in Evans’ work, with bold black lines and shapes set against a light background. However, closer inspection reveals an intricate layering of textures, lines, and subtle mark-making. Rosie captures this balance by combining solid areas with sheer, see-through elements, allowing light to pass through the layers, creating a sense of depth and highlighting the contrasting qualities of strength and delicacy in the original artwork.

Crafted from a mix of high-quality fabrics: cotton, a cotton-linen blend, cotton voile, and linen gauze, this one-of-a-kind piece is a striking and serene interpretation of Evans’ work.
