ORIEL MYRDDIN GALLERY is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Measures to support accessibility

The Gallery takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:

  • Include accessibility as part of our mission statement.
  • Assign clear accessibility targets and responsibilities.
  • Employ formal accessibility quality assurance methods.

Conformance status

The  Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)  defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Our website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of our website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for our website:

  1. WCAG2.1 criterion 1.1.1 Provide text alternatives for non-text content: We do not necessarily have text alternatives for all non-text content.   We have text descriptors for illustrations and images but they do not necessarily capture all the information in the image. All critical information is conveyed by text; images used are purely illustrative and for effect.   However we are continuing to work on the alternative text behind images to ensure it is fully descriptive. If you are at all concerned that the information you are gaining from text is incomplete then please email us with your query.

  2. WCAG2.1 criterion 1.4.3 Contrast levels between text and background: Where page title text is used in front of images the required WCAG levels of contrast cannot necessarily be maintained because of variation in the images used. The page titles concerned are purely illustrative and do not convey important information.   They are also set in large text so notwithstanding WCAG expectations should not cause a problem. Again, please contact us for help if any pages give particular concern.

  3. WCAG2.1 criterion 2.4.5 Provide multiple ways of finding pages in our website: Although the website has an organic and straightforward menu structure, we are currently developing a site map and search and will feature these on every page.   Our website is fully searchable with Google.   Alternatively we are always pleased to receive informal enquiries from members of the public and the information we are then able to give will be more specific than that contained on the website.
  4.   Adding subtitles to existing media created before 2018
  5.   Mobile operating systems older than 5 years
